Schnitzer notches career high in saves as Ohio Dominican tripped up on the road
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The Ohio Dominican women’s soccer team hit the road for the first time this season, traveling to the University of Illinois-Springfield for a clash with the Prairie Stars. Unfortunately for the Black & Yellow, UIS came away with a 2-0 victory.
ODU found rhythm early as junior Riley Arnold recorded the first shot of the match in the eighth minute. The Prairie Stars quickly countered a minute later, forcing Panther goalkeeper Ella Schnitzer into the first of her career-high seven saves on the afternoon.
The Panthers continued to test the UIS defense in the opening half, with freshmen Ashley Yontz and Kiera Archer leading the attack. Both sides entered halftime level, registering three shots apiece.
Illinois-Springfield broke the deadlock in the 47th minute when Schnitzer was called for a foul in the box. McKenna Gahagan converted the ensuing penalty kick to put the hosts ahead 1-0. The Prairie Stars doubled their advantage later in the half as Maddie Festerling found the back of the net, sealing the 2-0 result.
