Sam Buck nets sixth goal in three matches as Eagles tripped up in Akron
Just a week removed from their clash inside Resolute Athletic Complex, the Columbus Eagles and Susserfuss Harlequins met again after traveling up Interstate 71 to Northeast Ohio for the second leg of their home-and-home series. Back on January 24, the Eagles captured a 3-2 victory hours before Winter Storm Fern blanketed much of Central Ohio with incredible snowfall.
This time, however, it was a much different story, as Susserfuss earned a decisive 13-6 victory on its home field.
The Harlequins opened the match with a dominant 5-0 scoring run and held Columbus without a shot in the opening quarter. Eagles forward Cali Bruce finally broke the drought early in the second quarter, putting the visitors on the board to make it 5-1.
Susserfuss responded with three unanswered goals before Ella Tyler found the back of the net to trim the deficit. Bruce added her second goal of the match to cut the Harlequins’ advantage to 9-3.
Columbus closed the contest on a positive note, winning the fourth quarter 3-2. Bruce, Samantha Buck, and Aleah Treiterer each scored during the final frame.
UP NEXT
The Eagles return to action on Saturday, February 7, when they host the Cincinnati Sirens, a familiar rival for Columbus, and it promises to be one of the most competitive, physical matchups on the calendar.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Resolute Athletic Complex.
