Ohio Dominican Men's Soccer earns 1-1 draw against Roosevelt
On Saturday afternoon, the Ohio Dominican men’s soccer team faced off against newly minted GLIAC member Roosevelt University in their second match of the season.
Roosevelt, picked to finish second in the conference preseason poll, proved a tough opponent. Thanks to a late penalty goal by sophomore Aiden Crowley, the Panthers battled to a 1-1 draw with the Lakers.
The match was evenly contested, with both sides putting up near-identical numbers. Roosevelt recorded 12 total shots, seven on goal, while ODU tallied 11 shots, including nine on target. Panther goalkeeper Joseph Deitering stood tall between the posts, collecting six saves and conceding only on a penalty kick. Corner kicks were also close, with the Lakers holding a narrow 6-5 edge.
Physicality was a defining factor, as the teams combined for 23 fouls and seven yellow cards.
Both goals came from the spot. Roosevelt struck first in the 52nd minute, when Noah Vasilev converted a penalty shortly after halftime. With just four minutes left in regulation, Crowley drew a foul in the box off a corner kick and calmly slotted home the equalizer, earning ODU its first draw of the season.
