Just a few hours remain until Week Two of the high school football season kicks off in Central Ohio, and while Week One was filled with thrills and spills, this week undoubtedly will add to the fun and intrigue that makes football in Ohio great.
Last week, I packed up my car and set course for Dublin, where I witnessed a heck of an effort from Westerville South as the Wildcats upset Dublin Jerome, 20-13. The victory snapped a four-game losing streak dating back to last season and gave Westerville South an early boost heading into Week Two.
This week, we hop on the CBUS and head north on Route 23 into the City of Delaware, a place where fans of Arch City Athletics know we are quite familiar. The Delaware Hayes Pacers welcome the Lancaster Gales for a Week Two matchup as part of my coverage with CBUS Sports.
Delaware at a Glance
The Pacers open the home portion of their schedule Friday night, although they didn’t have to travel far for their season opener, heading just down the road to face Buckeye Valley. Hayes came away with a 21-7 victory.
Junior quarterback Simon Lash turned in a strong performance, completing 6-of-9 passes for 75 yards and a touchdown. Lash threw for two-thirds of his passing yards when he connected with freshman Dominic Kenney for a 50-yard completion.
Kenney’s fellow freshman, Andrew Oldaker, led the Pacers on the ground with 17 carries for 100 yards. He averaged 5.9 yards per carry to lead the team.
Gazing at the Gales
Lancaster comes into tonight’s contest looking to rebound following a 20-15 loss to Hilliard Darby last week.
The Gales got off to a strong start in their season debut, scoring nine unanswered points to take an early lead into the locker room. However, Darby made the necessary adjustments at halftime and responded with a 20-6 advantage in the second half to rally for the victory.
