Eagles Fly Past Susserfuss-Ballverein, 3-2
The two teams will play the second game of their home-and-home this upcoming weekend.
The Columbus Eagles closed out their two-game homestand with an impressive 3-2 victory over Susserfuss-Ballverein last Saturday evening. Loren Gormley recorded a brace, while Samantha Buck added her fifth goal in two matches.
Gormley opened the scoring just over two minutes into the contest. She collected a pass from Gaby Escamilla and calmly slipped the ball past the goalkeeper to give Columbus an early advantage.
Susserfuss responded quickly, maintaining sustained possession in the attacking zone before finding the equalizer.
With 2:39 remaining in the first quarter, Gormley completed her brace to put the Eagles back in front. As expected, the visitors answered once again, leveling the match at 2-2 heading into the break.
Buck delivered the decisive moment just three minutes into the second half. With Susserfuss pressing, Columbus intercepted the ball in transition. Buck gathered the loose ball and fired a shot that kissed the left post, ricocheted off the right, and spun into the back of the net to secure the game-winning goal.
Columbus went to work on the defensive end, as goalkeepers Bri Rogers and Liv Alford combined for 18 saves, with both keepers playing two quarters each. I spoke to them following the contest. The interview was filmed by Joe Shelton.
They were shielded by defenders such as Ashley Gogolin and Cali Bruce. I also spoke to Bruce following the game.
