Dublin Jerome freshman defender Avery Decker has been selected to attend the United States Youth National Team U15 September camp, her team announced Monday on social media.
Decker is one of 24 players from across the country named to the U15 roster.
The freshman has been instrumental in the Celtics’ success to start the season. Dublin Jerome currently sits with a record of 3-0 with victories over Delaware Hayes, Westerville Central and Hilliard Bradley. Decker helps anchor a defensive unit that has conceded just one goal through the team’s first three matches.
This isn’t the freshman’s first time catching the attention of U.S. Soccer scouts. Earlier this year, she was selected to attend a U14 Regional ID Camp, an opportunity designed to identify and evaluate promising players from across the country.
Decker is one of eight defenders selected to the U15 squad. The team will scrimmage the U16 squad when camp gets underway Tuesday and runs through Sept. 8 in Fayetteville, Georgia.
The current Celtic defender is also following a path previously traveled by another Dublin Jerome standout. Current United States Women’s National Team and Racing Louisville forward Emma Sears was a four-year letter winner and three-year starter for the Celts, earning two All-Ohio selections during her high school career.
Now, Decker has an opportunity to begin carving out her own path toward the international stage.
And if her trajectory continues, perhaps one day the former Jerome standouts could find themselves on opposite sides of an NWSL match.
