Delaware Rising battles Valentis Athletica in final road match of regular season

Just two regular-season matches remain for Delaware Rising in the Northern Ohio Soccer League (NOSL) season. It’s crunch time in league play as three teams continue to jockey for the number one seed in the women’s division.
Currently, Rising sits atop the standings with 15 points. They are followed by Susserfuss-Ballverein and North FC, who each have 12 points.
Delaware owns a win over Susserfuss and maintains the head-to-head advantage, while North FC travels to Central Ohio for the regular-season finale on July 12.
The Rising women head north toward Toledo on Sunday afternoon for a midday matchup against Valentis Athletica.
Delaware returns to action after besting both Mother Nature and Mansfield Liederkranz last weekend with a 2-0 victory played in dreadful conditions. Natalie Dye (Detroit Mercy) and Lindsey Whitmore (Otterbein) found the scoresheet for Rising, while Sally Patton (Loyola Chicago) and Ella Schwertfager (Otterbein) combined for another clean sheet. The duo has now combined for 360 consecutive minutes of shutout soccer while recording 12 saves.
Following losses in its first two contests, Athletica found its way into the win column with a result against Panthers FC on June 7. However, a stumble against the aforementioned Liederkranz has the hosts looking to bounce back and return to winning ways.
Carly Roth leads Valentis with one goal this season, while the club’s other strike came via an own goal against Panthers FC. Goalkeeper Lauren Tobias leads the team with five saves, while teammate Yari Corado sits close behind with four.
Sunday’s matchup marks the first meeting between the two clubs as Valentis makes its debut in the NOSL women’s division this season.
Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m., and we’ll have coverage on our Twitter page.
