Columbus Eagles fall in physical contest to Detroit City FC as local products showcase talent
The Columbus Eagles competed in their second home contest of the Major Arena League Soccer (MASL) season last Saturday, falling 10-6 in a physical matchup against Detroit City FC.
Columbus opened the scoring just 17 seconds into the first quarter. Forward Samantha Buck capitalized on a favorable bounce, finding herself one-on-one with the Detroit goalkeeper. The former Ohio Dominican standout calmly tucked the ball away to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage.
Detroit City responded quickly, but the lead lasted only 12 seconds before another Eagle found the scoresheet. Sophia Tyler received a pass from teammate Aleah Treiterer and redirected it into the net to restore Columbus’ lead. Detroit answered again just 10 seconds later to even the score, but Buck made her presence felt once more, scoring with 6:53 remaining in the first quarter to send the Eagles into the break with a 3-2 advantage.
The visitors rattled off three unanswered goals across the second and third quarters to take a 5-3 lead. Columbus pushed back as Buck completed her hat trick, her third of four goals on the night, to cut the deficit to 5-4. Detroit City, however, held firm down the stretch. Columbus later pulled goalkeeper Bri Rogers in favor of an extra field player in a final push, but City pulled away to secure a 10-6 victory and return to Michigan with the win.
