The Capital Comets women’s soccer team extended its winning streak to five consecutive matches with a 4-0 victory. The win improves the Comets’ overall record to 10-2, including a perfect 3-0 mark in conference play and an unblemished 6-0 record inside the friendly confines of Bernlohr Stadium.
Capital looked to establish momentum early, and that’s exactly what they did. The hosts were on the board first as junior Payton Childers scored in the 28th minute off a sweet setup from Juli Sprague.
Classmate Mayci Sayre found the back of the net eight minutes later to double the Comets’ advantage to 2-0.
The half ended in ideal fashion for Capital as senior Sofia Walton drew a foul to give the hosts a set-piece opportunity. The Comets executed a tremendous free-kick opportunity that was delivered perfectly to junior Kylie Lewis, who put the ball into the back of the net to give her team a 3-0 lead heading into the intermission.
Sayre collected her brace in the 84th minute, linking up with Lewis to seal the 4-0 victory for the Comets.
