The Pickerington North Panthers scored three times in a six-minute span to down the Central Crossing Comets 3-0 on Tuesday evening.

Junior Sydney Rogers was involved in all three scoring sequences, helping her team capture its first win in its last five matches.

Pick North started strong, with junior midfielder Grace Logan registering the first shot on target for the visitors in the seventh minute.

In the 23rd minute, Logan was at it again, finding teammate Emily Morris with a pass that unlocked the Central Crossing defense. Morris set her sights on goal and unleashed a shot, but the Comets goalkeeper made the save.

Freshman Olivia Neill enjoyed a strong performance on both sides of the ball and provided the Panthers with several opportunities from set pieces. She served in an outswinging ball that found sophomore Brynna Wade lurking in the penalty area, but Wade’s shot went just wide.

The Panthers enjoyed several chances before halftime but couldn’t find the breakthrough they needed.

Eleven minutes after the halftime break, Rogers found the back of the net, hitting a cross from the near side first-time on the volley and into the back of the net to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

That would begin the scoring surge for the Panthers.

Rogers collected her second point in as many minutes, finding Morris for the second goal of the contest.

The junior then finished off the scoring surge in the 57th minute, collecting her brace and giving the visitors a 3-0 lead.

Seniors Abby Smathers, Karli Johnson, and Sophia Racette had quality opportunities late in the contest but couldn’t convert.

The Panthers held on from there as the defense saw little challenge to its lead, preserving the 3-0 victory.

Saturdays in Columbus are for one thing: Buckeye Football.

It’s difficult to explain to someone who isn’t from the area, but the way the City of Columbus comes to a grinding halt to cheer on the men of the Scarlet & Gray is something you don’t see across many metropolitan areas.

Traveling across campus is a whole different journey, as it can take upwards of 15 minutes just to go a half mile in search of a parking spot. Once you reach campus, though, you can feel the electricity in the air and the excitement as another gameday is upon you.

That was my journey on Saturday.

If you listened to the Arch City Athletics Podcast this past week, you knew that this weekend was going to be a full-circle moment of sorts for me and my family.

Boy, did it deliver.

I’ve been privileged to be called into service for Jim Tressel for a variety of projects over the last year and a half, traversing across the State of Ohio. Most notably, I’ve had the opportunity to work on the Team Tressel Fitness Challenge.

Saturday, I was asked to cover perhaps the most important project I’ve ever worked on for Coach: his induction into the Ohio State Ring of Honor.

My memories of Jim Tressel reach back to when I was a kid growing up in Boardman, Ohio, attending Saint Charles Elementary School. Coach Tressel was in charge of the Youngstown State University football program and was widely regarded as one of the top figures in the Mahoning Valley.

Despite his status, he was a man of faith and always made time to come to church, often choosing the 4 p.m. service on Saturdays when his schedule allowed.

When he left Youngstown to pursue coaching at Ohio State, the pride of the Valley followed him, and we always felt like we had a connection.

What I didn’t understand was that my father had more of a connection to the Tressel family than I realized.

My father, Michael, was an accomplished high school and collegiate runner in the Cleveland area. He eventually ran so well that he found himself on the track & field team at Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio.

It wasn’t until my father passed away in 2025 that I discovered this connection, but it’s one that makes things make a bit more sense.

Fast forward to the early 2000s. Jim Tressel had been at Ohio State for a few years when he went on a run of attending back-to-back Ohio State games in 2005 against San Diego State and Iowa.

Like Youngstown State, my father ignited my passion for Ohio State Football, and it was off to the races.

We would talk about Buckeye football any chance we’d get. Even during his final months of life, he would still talk to me about the Bucks. It was our slice of normalcy as he grappled with the tough road ahead of him.

When the Buckeyes won the National Championship in 2025, I bought him swag and everything I could to make sure we could celebrate the occasion together.

We did get to celebrate it.

That would be our last one in this lifetime.

He passed at The Ohio State University Medical Center on February 27, 2025, at approximately 10:59 a.m.

Being able to celebrate a man who meant so much to both of us, just blocks away from where my father took his final breath, is something that isn’t lost on me.

I felt his presence with me every step of the way Saturday as he helped guide me and make sure that I was able to give back to an influential figure who had given us so much.

As Coach Tressel said during his speech Saturday, “I thank God every day—he made me a Buckeye.”

I thank God every day He made me a Buckeye.

And I thank Him for making me a photographer, putting me in good situations with great people and allowing me to tell stories like this one.

Ed Helms portrays Andy Bernard on NBC’s hit sitcom The Office. Helms has a famous line stating, “I wish there was a way to know you’re in the good old days before you’ve actually left them.”

I was very much aware that I was in the midst of the “good old days.”

And Saturday, I was creating a memory I won’t soon forget.

We are just days away from the return of Ohio State football as the Buckeyes welcome Ball State to Ohio Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

It’s a massive day in Columbus as the Scarlet and Gray return to action looking to maintain their spot atop the Associated Press Top 25. But in this day and age of streaming, one question looms large: What channel is the game on?

FOX? ESPN? Peacock?

The options can seem endless, but Buckeye fans won’t have to search far for Saturday’s season opener. Ohio State and Ball State will square off at 12:30 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.

Ohio State enters Saturday having won 26 consecutive season-opening games, the longest active streak in the country. A victory over Ball State would give the Buckeyes their 27th straight season-opening win.

Saturday will also be a celebration of Ohio State history.

Former head coach and current Ohio Lieutenant Governor Jim Tressel will be honored as his name is added to the Ohio Stadium Ring of Honor. The day will also feature the Ohio State Alumni Band, Spirit Day and Football Senior Day.

It was also announced Tuesday that former Buckeye running back and 2002 national champion Maurice Clarett will serve as the first Victory Bell Ringer of the 2026 season, ringing the bell ahead of kickoff.

The action gets underway from Ohio Stadium at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, with the No. 1 Buckeyes officially beginning their quest for another run at the College Football Playoff.

Dublin Jerome freshman defender Avery Decker has been selected to attend the United States Youth National Team U15 September camp, her team announced Monday on social media.

Decker is one of 24 players from across the country named to the U15 roster.

The freshman has been instrumental in the Celtics’ success to start the season. Dublin Jerome currently sits with a record of 3-0 with victories over Delaware Hayes, Westerville Central and Hilliard Bradley. Decker helps anchor a defensive unit that has conceded just one goal through the team’s first three matches.

This isn’t the freshman’s first time catching the attention of U.S. Soccer scouts. Earlier this year, she was selected to attend a U14 Regional ID Camp, an opportunity designed to identify and evaluate promising players from across the country.

Decker is one of eight defenders selected to the U15 squad. The team will scrimmage the U16 squad when camp gets underway Tuesday and runs through Sept. 8 in Fayetteville, Georgia.

The current Celtic defender is also following a path previously traveled by another Dublin Jerome standout. Current United States Women’s National Team and Racing Louisville forward Emma Sears was a four-year letter winner and three-year starter for the Celts, earning two All-Ohio selections during her high school career.

Now, Decker has an opportunity to begin carving out her own path toward the international stage.

And if her trajectory continues, perhaps one day the former Jerome standouts could find themselves on opposite sides of an NWSL match.

Just a few hours remain until Week Two of the high school football season kicks off in Central Ohio, and while Week One was filled with thrills and spills, this week undoubtedly will add to the fun and intrigue that makes football in Ohio great.

Last week, I packed up my car and set course for Dublin, where I witnessed a heck of an effort from Westerville South as the Wildcats upset Dublin Jerome, 20-13. The victory snapped a four-game losing streak dating back to last season and gave Westerville South an early boost heading into Week Two.

This week, we hop on the CBUS and head north on Route 23 into the City of Delaware, a place where fans of Arch City Athletics know we are quite familiar. The Delaware Hayes Pacers welcome the Lancaster Gales for a Week Two matchup as part of my coverage with CBUS Sports.

Delaware at a Glance

The Pacers open the home portion of their schedule Friday night, although they didn’t have to travel far for their season opener, heading just down the road to face Buckeye Valley. Hayes came away with a 21-7 victory.

Junior quarterback Simon Lash turned in a strong performance, completing 6-of-9 passes for 75 yards and a touchdown. Lash threw for two-thirds of his passing yards when he connected with freshman Dominic Kenney for a 50-yard completion.

Kenney’s fellow freshman, Andrew Oldaker, led the Pacers on the ground with 17 carries for 100 yards. He averaged 5.9 yards per carry to lead the team.

Gazing at the Gales

Lancaster comes into tonight’s contest looking to rebound following a 20-15 loss to Hilliard Darby last week.

The Gales got off to a strong start in their season debut, scoring nine unanswered points to take an early lead into the locker room. However, Darby made the necessary adjustments at halftime and responded with a 20-6 advantage in the second half to rally for the victory.

We will be on site tonight assisting with coverage of the contest for CBUS Sports. Catch the live scoreboard show featuring Kevin Rouch on X, where I will be feeding photos and information from the game into the studio. Panthers Open 2026 Season With 2-0 Victory Over Pickerington Central

PICKERINGTON, Ohio — Following a thrilling run in the OHSAA Girls Soccer State Tournament that saw Pickerington North reach the state semifinal, the Panthers returned to the pitch for a primetime contest against crosstown rival Pickerington Central to kick off the 2026 girls soccer season.

Both teams traded chances in the early going, but North fired the opening shot across the bow. Sophomore Yasmine Shaibu won a foot race against her defender and found herself in a one-on-one opportunity with the Pickerington Central goalkeeper. Shaibu was tripped up as both players attempted to gain possession, and the chance went wide.

The sophomore wasn’t done, getting a clean shot off in the ninth minute that forced a save from the Tiger goalkeeper.

North senior goalkeeper Reagan Green registered her first save of the season shortly after, floating through the air and diving to her left to collect the shot.

Sophomore midfielder Emily Morris nearly put the Panthers on the board in the 17th minute. She battled with her defender before getting a shot off, but the attempt lacked pace as the defender shielded Morris from the loose ball and watched it roll out of play for a goal kick.

Green collected another stop in the 34th minute and received strong play from her defense, including a timely tackle from senior Elle Frangos, to keep the score level at 0-0 heading into halftime.

Pickerington North finally broke through in the 64th minute when senior Nevaeh Champion won a foot race against her defender, collected the ball and placed a clinical finish into the back of the net. The goal gave the hosts a 1-0 advantage and energized the home crowd heading into the final moments of the contest.

Nine minutes later, Morris doubled the Panthers’ lead. A miscue from the Central goalkeeper led to a failed clearance from the Tigers, allowing the sophomore to turn and fire from the top of the penalty area. Her shot struck the underside of the crossbar before bouncing down across the goal line. The far-side assistant referee signaled for the goal, giving North a 2-0 advantage.

North continued to apply pressure but ultimately settled into possession, taking the ball into the corner and methodically running out the clock to claim its first victory of the season.

We’ve known for some time that the WNBA was returning to Cleveland, but now the city’s newest franchise finally has an identity: the Cleveland Sirens.

Roughly 5,000 fans packed Rocket Arena on Tuesday morning to witness the official unveiling. The lower bowl and upper sections opposite the stage were filled with supporters, while hundreds of VIPs took their seats on the floor, including Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb, former Sherwin-Williams CEO John Morikis, and former Ohio State football head coach and current Ohio Lieutenant Governor Jim Tressel.

From the moment fans entered Rocket Arena, it was clear this wasn’t an ordinary Cavaliers event. Gone were the familiar Wine and Gold colors. Instead, the downtown venue was transformed with shades of navy blue and aqua, giving attendees their first glimpse of the franchise’s new visual identity.

The presentation matched the anticipation. Dramatic lighting set the stage as bubbles, some filled with smoke, drifted from the rafters while excitement built throughout the arena.

When the Cleveland Sirens name and logo were finally revealed, the crowd erupted in applause. Many fans immediately voiced their approval, praising the ownership group’s creative direction for the franchise’s new look. The team was rewarded with a line of fans out the door of the team shop, ready to purchase gear to show their support of the Sirens.

According to team officials, the branding effort centered around three priorities: creating an identity distinct from the Cavaliers, establishing a connection to Lake Erie, and developing a modern, progressive brand. The organization believes the Sirens identity successfully achieves all three.

The Sirens will begin play in 2028 and become Cleveland’s second WNBA franchise. The Cleveland Rockers were one of the league’s original teams before folding in 2003 after then-owner Gordon Gund was unable to find a buyer.

Dan Gilbert’s Rock Entertainment Group, which has owned the Cavaliers since 2005, paid a $250 million expansion fee to bring the WNBA back to Cleveland.

So why the nickname “Sirens”?

In Greek mythology, sirens are legendary creatures whose voices lured sailors toward dangerous shores. The name also ties into Cleveland’s identity along the shores of Lake Erie while serving as a nod to the city’s rich musical heritage as the home of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

ASHLAND, Ohio — Delaware Rising’s quest for a second Northern Ohio Soccer League (NOSL) championship came to an end Saturday, falling 1-0 to Susserfuss-Ballverein in the league title match.

Susserfuss broke the deadlock in the 37th minute after being awarded a free kick just outside the penalty area. The Harlequins’ attempt forced Rising goalkeeper Ella Schwertfager (Otterbein) to her left. She managed to get a hand on the shot, but the ball slipped through her fingertips and found the back of the net.

Delaware responded with an improved second-half performance, gradually building momentum and putting sustained pressure on the Susserfuss back line. Defender Kendra Kovacs (Capital) pushed forward to join the attack as Rising continued to probe around the penalty area in search of an equalizer.

Despite controlling long stretches of the second half and creating dangerous opportunities, the top-seeded Rising were unable to find the breakthrough before the final whistle, as Susserfuss-Ballverein claimed the NOSL championship with a 1-0 victory.

It all comes down to this.

Delaware Rising and Susserfuss-Ballverin meet in Ashland, Ohio, on Saturday evening to battle for the 2026 Northern Ohio Soccer League Women’s Championship. From the opening weeks of the season, it felt like these two clubs were on a collision course, with both emerging as the league’s top contenders.

Susserfuss enters the match as the two-time defending NOSL champions after capturing league titles in 2024 and 2025. The Harlequins will be looking to secure an unprecedented third consecutive championship while avenging a 3-1 defeat to Delaware earlier this season.

It’s been an incredible run for Delaware Rising, which enters the championship riding an eight-match winning streak. Rising is seeking its second NOSL title in just its second championship appearance. The club won the inaugural NOSL Championship in 2023 with a 2-1 victory over Ohio City SC. Three members of that championship squad remain on the roster and could feature again on Saturday: 2023 NOSL Golden Boot winner Rachel Austin, Kindall Duke, and Lindsey Whitmore.

Delaware punched its ticket to the final with an impressive 5-1 semifinal victory over Ohio City SC despite having just two players available on the bench. Head coach Landon Kuhn expertly managed his squad’s minutes and crafted a game plan that his players executed to near perfection.

Rileigh Glassburn led the attack with two goals, while Kindall Duke, Lindsey Whitmore, and Jada Leyland also found the back of the net. Rising will be hoping for a similar attacking performance as it chases another championship trophy.

Kickoff from Ashland is set for 4:30 p.m., and we’ll have full coverage from the NOSL Women’s Championship.

Ohio Dominican University is once again facing controversy stemming from allegations involving a member of its athletic department.

Madison Lindamood, a graduate assistant with Ohio Dominican’s football team during the 2025-26 season, has filed a Title IX sex-discrimination lawsuit against the university in federal court.

Lindamood alleges she was assaulted by a football player during a university-sponsored fundraising event on March 6. The lawsuit, filed July 10, states that the player “approached her aggressively, made physical contact with her body, and forcibly ripped her bag from her person, physically pulling her, and searched her belongings without her consent.”

According to the complaint, Lindamood documented bruising on the back of her neck with photographs. The filing also states the alleged assault was witnessed by another graduate assistant.

A spokesperson for Ohio Dominican told NBC4, “As a matter of policy, we do not comment on pending litigation.”

“It’s gotten ugly really quick,” a source told Arch City Athletics as the ODU Athletic Department navigates this ongoing legal matter.

“I wanted that job,” Lindamood said in a statement to USA Today. “What I did not expect was to be told that what happened to me did not count unless it drew blood. No woman should have to choose between staying silent and losing the career she’s worked so hard to build.”

The complaint also states that Lindamood reported the alleged assault to head football coach Kelly Cummings the same day, but alleges he provided “no meaningful follow-up.”

Three days later, on March 9, Lindamood reported the alleged assault to Title IX coordinator and Dean of Students Amy Thomas. According to the complaint, Thomas directed Cummings to investigate the matter rather than assigning a neutral investigator. The filing alleges Cummings told Lindamood his “personal definition of assault required blood or severe bruising.”

The complaint further alleges that Cummings asked Lindamood what she “could have done differently.”

This isn’t the first time that Ohio Dominican has had issues with a head coach’s alledged conduct. Back in 2018, then-ODU volleyball coach Jenn Fekpe was accused of abuse by members of the volleyball program.

On April 13, Thomas issued a one-paragraph determination stating that the complaint did not meet the standard for Title IX sexual harassment and would instead be referred to the university’s Student Code of Conduct process, according to the filing.

According to the complaint, the player was “purportedly” suspended but continued to attend team practices and other team activities, repeatedly placing Lindamood in contact with her alleged assailant.

The complaint alleges Lindamood later faced retaliation from the university, including being removed from team communications, publicly berated by other members of the coaching staff, excluded from coaches’ meetings and repeatedly forced into close proximity with her alleged assailant.

According to the complaint, after Lindamood’s mother filed a retaliation complaint in April, Cummings left her a voicemail instructing her not to return to work. The filing states she has not been permitted to return since.

Lindamood also alleges coaches and players followed her, photographed her and recorded her around campus, prompting university public safety officers to escort her across campus on multiple occasions.

Lastly, Lindamood alleges she worked significant unpaid overtime. According to the complaint, she received a $5,000 stipend to work 20 hours per week from August 2025 through May 2026. The filing contends Ohio Dominican assigned her responsibilities equivalent to those of a full-time coaching staff member and required her to perform those duties despite her graduate assistant appointment.

The lawsuit seeks compensatory and punitive damages, as well as compensation for unpaid overtime and unpaid minimum wages.

Delaware Rising will play for its second Northern Ohio Soccer League (NOSL) Championship on Saturday evening, traveling to Ashland, Ohio to take on Susserfuss-Ballverein after punching its ticket to the title match with a commanding 5-1 semifinal victory over Ohio City SC.

The win marked Rising’s eighth victory of the season and sets up a rematch with a Susserfuss side eager for revenge after Delaware claimed a 3-1 victory in the clubs’ regular-season meeting on May 24.
